Coffee!

Keto people love their coffee. When I first started researching keto diet plans I kept reading about "Bullet Proof Coffee". It was a high fat coffee that most started their days with. They said it boosted their energy levels, helped them meet their fat macros and people swore once you had it you would never go back.

I had to break a coffee creamer addiction when I started Keto. We were buying the large size sugar free coffeemate creamers and going through them like crazy. So I was very used to sweet tasty coffee in the morning. Would the bullet proof coffee help?!

Day 1. I made bullet proof coffee. So what is it?

Black coffee

2 TB unsalted butter

1 TB unrefined coconut Oil or 1 TB MCT Oil

I purchased a coffee frother a couple years ago. This is REQUIRED if you want to make this coffee. It helps blend it all together. Otherwise you are drinking clumps of oil

I hated it. It tasted like creamy butter coffee. And the texture from the coconut oil just wasn't for me. It had zero flavor - but again, I was addicted to vanilla creamer. I tried adding some cinnamon or nutmeg - didn't help.

So On Day 7 I switched to Black Coffee, 1TB MCT Oil and 1 TB Heavy Cream. Used the frother again. This stuck. It didn't have a ton of flavor but the heavy cream made the coffee creamier. Still had added fat. I have that coffee every morning. Then fast until dinner.

Before I move on - what is MCT Oil

Keto people love them some MCT Oil and here is why: https://urlzs.com/3Eqgy

I don't know if it had a placebo effect on me but I felt like a superhero after I started using it. I had clarity, energy, and it helped curb my hunger. The one I find that has the least gastrointestinal issues is this one: https://urlzs.com/dPDV6

Some find that it bothers their stomach - this one never bothered me.

Lately I have found the Wegmans Cold Brew Buzz (in the dairy section) and sometimes add MCT oil, heavy cream and a small tsp of Swerve and froth up a cold brew for myself. With summer coming - that will curb my craving for starbucks iced coffees or frapps!

Just this weekend I saw a Keto Coffee creamer at Wegmans (in dairy section). It was a little pricey for an every week purchase ($4.85) but I wanted to give it a try for you guys! Its delicious. I put about a TB in my coffee this morning - already has MCT oil so I didn't need to add anything. It was very sweet so tomorrow I will probably add half that amount. Comes in Vanilla and Hazelnut flavors.

End Goal: Stay away from coffeemate creamers! You don't want the chemicals, even if they say sugar free. Start to get used to heavy cream or bulletproof coffee. If you do need flavor, try some keto creamer but try hard not to use it every day. MCT oil is your friend! Get a small bottle on amazon and try it. Really helps during keto!
